Solar

Nevada’s large deserts and sunny weather make it an ideal state for growing solar power generation.  In the last 5 years, Nevada has increased from a photovoltaic capacity of 18.8 to 124.1 MW and only looks to grow from there. The Nevada Renewable Portfolio Standard requires a 25% use of renewable energy by 2025 (6% of which to be solar).

Wind

The mountains of Nevada are exposed to upper-air winds that, when coupled with their perpendicular orientation to wind direction, create an enhanced wind speed.  The unequal heating of the basins augments wind speed even further, resulting in desirable conditions for wind power facilities. With data obtained from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, 84 New Nevada parcels were identified as suitable for utility-scale wind turbine applications.
